Idea Cellular reports a consolidated loss of Rs 8.15 billion during the quarter ended June 2017

Idea Cellular has reported a consolidated loss of Rs 8.15 billion during the quarter ended June 2017 as against a net profit of Rs 2.20 billion during the quarter ended June 2016. This was on account of a decline of around 14 per cent in the operator’s revenues from Rs 94.86 billion to Rs 81.66 billion during the same period. Meanwhile, the operator’s total expenses increased by 2.23 per cent from Rs 93.2 billion to Rs 95.28 billion.

Further, the operator’s earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation declined from Rs 30.95 billion during the quarter ended June 2016 to Rs 18.75 billion during the quarter ended June 2017. The EBIDTA margin declined from 32.6 per cent to 23 per cent.

Idea’s subscriber base increased from 176.2 million to 189 million during the same period. Meanwhile, the total minutes of usage on the operator’s network increased from 199,307 million during the quarter ended June 2016 to 250,729 million during the quarter ended June 2017. The blended average revenue per user declined sharply from Rs 181 to Rs 141.
