The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has invited public comments to review the deadline of January 1, 2020 to abolish the interconnect usage charges (IUC).

At present, mobile call termination charges for every operator is 6 paise per minute as, IUC, which is proposed to be made nil from January 1, 2020.

The regulator has proposed a bill and keep (BAK) regime under which no operator raises bill for IUC, regime will be reducing the inter-operator off-net traffic imbalance. Telecom operators with large number of subscribers are gaining from IUC.

TRAI seeks comments on the idea "to revise the applicable date for BAK regime i.e. zero mobile termination charge, from January 1, 2020" and the last date for comments on the paper is October 18 and for counter comment it is November 1, 2019.
