DoT to constitute a panel to look into TRAI’s net neutrality recommendations

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) plans to set up an internal committee to evaluate the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI) recommendations on net neutrality. Earlier, TRAI had suggested keeping the internet open and amending licence conditions to prevent operators and internet service providers from blocking or slowing down of content on the internet to ensure equal access of the internet to all people. It opined that telecom or internet service providers should be barred from signing pacts that can lead to discriminatory treatment on the internet, based on content, sender, receiver, protocols or even equipment.
